10 Roarsome Food Ideas for a Dinosaur Themed Party

If your little ones love dinosaurs, the chances are they’ll ask for a dino-themed birthday party at some point. If so, you can add to the excitement and atmosphere of the decorations and the games by providing some dinosaur-inspired food. There are lots of creative options to try, so here are ten unique ideas.

And, if you’re looking for an extra special treat to complement the party, how about booking a dino-themed stage show? Dinosaur World Live is currently touring the UK and is a family theatre show packed with imaginative moments and spectacular puppetry.

1. Dinosaur Eggs

Hard boil some eggs before smashing the shell just enough to create cracks without the shell falling off. Soak the eggs in food colouring for a few hours then wash and peel. You’ll find the eggs have a fun marbled effect. Present them on a bed of lettuce for a nest-like feel.

2. Dinosaur Sandwiches

A dinosaur cookie cutter is all you need to create dino shaped sandwiches. Make sandwiches with a variety of fillings, cut them into shape and serve on a plate with shredded cucumber to look like the dinos are walking through grass.

3. Herbivore Platter with Swamp Dip

Prepare a platter for all the herbivores at the party by cutting up broccoli ‘trees’, carrot ‘logs’, celery ‘stalks’ and tomato ‘boulders.’ You could even add cucumber ‘grass’ and a picture of red and orange peppers to create a fiery sunset. Make a delicious guacamole to look like a ‘swamp dip’ for the veg.

If your children aren’t a massive fan of veggies, do the same thing with fruit. You can use green apples for grass, oranges for the sky, bananas for stepping stones - and so on.

4. NDino Dig Cups

Serve up chocolate mousse layered with Oreo crumbs. Hide various jelly dinosaurs or worms inside and give children a spoon so they can search for the hidden creatures inside.

5. Pterodactyl Wings

This is a really simple but fun idea. Bake a tray of marinated chicken wings and label them as Pterodactyl wings. Offer different sauces such as ketchup/BBQ sauce ‘lava’ for dipping.

6. Dino Nuggets

Did you know you can find dino shaped nuggets in most supermarkets? These are perfect for a dinosaur themed party and an easy option - simply pop them in the oven for the required time.

7. Brontosaurus Burgers

Name your veggie or meat burgers after the Brontosaurus. You could even decorate with lettuce (leaves) and gherkins which are great for creating a scale-like effect.

8. Fossilised Cookies

Kids love finding fossils, so how about making your very own fossilised cookies. To do this, simply bake regular cookies and press a plastic dinosaur foot into each one before baking.

9. Dinosaur Jelly

Make individual cups of red or blue jelly with a dinosaur gummy placed inside. This will create a fossil-like effect and is a unique dino dessert.

10. Volcano Cake

If you’re good at baking, try your hand at a volcano cake. This should be shaped like a volcano and have ‘lava’ pouring out of the top. The lava can be as simple as red or orange icing. Decorate the base of the cake with plastic dinosaurs for effect.
