Celebrities and their Favourite Dinosaurs

Whether it’s the sharp-toothed T-Rex or the three-horned Triceratops, choosing a favourite dinosaur can be hard. They’ve all got their own fascinating features and strengths. But it turns out that some celebrities know exactly which dinos they prefer. Here’s a rundown of prehistoric beasts that those in the spotlight adore.

Christ Pratt - Velociraptor

Speaking proudly about his role in the Jurassic World series, actor Chris Pratt mentions liking all carnivorous dinosaurs. He admitted that his original favourite - T.rex - was replaced by Velociraptor when he worked on the movies, because of its ‘hyper intelligent and advanced’ nature. Of course, it’s worth noting that the Velociraptors in Jurassic World are very different from the real animal, which was roughly the size of a turkey!

Laura Dern and Jeff Goldblum - Triceratops

The original stars of Jurassic Park, Laura Dern and Jeff Goldblum revealed during an interview that the one dinosaur that really endeared itself to them was the sick Triceratops. In the movie, the group encounters it while on their initial tour of the park. Dern said:

“You know what, it’s the Triceratops. She had the most soulful eyes I’ve ever seen. And it was easy to act with her, to pet her and take care of her. I want a Triceratops for my front yard.”

Goldblum also said the Triceratops really stood out when he saw the full puppet on set, stating: “Mine is the Triceratops too. The first time we were taken to the set…it was like you’d come upon this thing and boy, it looked like a real dinosaur.”

As a child, Goldblum had a book about a youngster who finds a great big egg in his backyard, which turns out to be a Triceratops. The book made a profound impression on him, which made seeing the Triceratops in Jurassic Park all the more powerful for him.

Sam Neill - ‘Little Chicken Ones’

Sam Neill, who played Dr. Alan Grant in Jurassic Park and Jurassic World: Dominion had different tastes to his co-stars when it came to dino preferences. When interviewed, he said: “I like the little chicken ones that eat (Dennis) Nedry. They’re deeply unpleasant.”

Neill is likely talking about Dilophosaurus, which in the movie has an expanding neck frill and spits venom. However, in real life, this dinosaur was about seven metres long and there is no evidence in the fossil record that it had these abilities.

DeWanda Wise - Pyroraptor

The Jurassic World: Dominion star has a less well known favourite: Pyroraptor. After learning that the Quetzalcoatlus wasn’t a dinosaur, she named this small theropod as her top choice. Very little is known about this dino, which was probably a similar size to Velociraptor.
