With its gleaming architecture and trendy restaurants, it’s a hub of entertainment, ensuring there’s never a dull moment. So if you’re looking for places to visit in Salford with the kids, you won’t be short of options. Here are some of the best.

Visit The Lowry

The Lowry arts centre is the jewel in the crown at Salford Quays, showcasing world-class exhibitions, theatre shows and music events. From 16-18 February 2023, it’s hosting Dinosaur World Live, a children’s theatre production designed especially for kids aged three and up. Discover a world of prehistoric beasts, from the Microraptor to the enormous T-Rex, and marvel at the stunning puppetry that brings these roarsome reptiles to life.

Head to the museum

As far as child-friendly activities in Salford go, you can’t go wrong with a trip to the Salford Museum and Art Gallery. Step back in time to Victorian Salford when you head onto the Lark Hill Place recreated street, and find out about the real people and events that have shaped the area over the past 200 years. There are also historical characters to meet and artworks to discover – and if you’ve been good, perhaps mum and dad will treat you at Mr Tomlinson’s Sweet Shop.

If you are interested in wartime history, don’t miss the Imperial War Museum North. Situated in a purpose-built construction, it tells the story of over a century of war, showcasing impressive items such as a US Harrier and First World War field gun, and learn about everything from the impact of science and technology to what the war experience was like for women.

Discover MediaCityUK

Explore Ordsall Hall

A few minutes’ walk from the contemporary architecture of the Quays is a gorgeous Tudor mansion, which was home to the Radclyffe family for 300 years. Wander through the ornamental gardens, take in the magnificence of the Great Hall, and get a sense of what it was like to cook in a 17th century kitchen. Keep your senses alert though – the ghost of a young girl is said to roam the property, accompanied by the sweet smell of roses.

Wherever you’re planning to go over the winter months, don’t miss the chance to see dinosaurs live in action at Dinosaur World Live. At 50 minutes with no interval, it’s perfect for the shorter attention span of kids, and they’ll learn all sorts of facts about these pre-historic reptiles. Book your tickets today!
