With October half term on the horizon, many families are looking for ways to keep the kids entertained - and what better way to delight your dinosaur-mad children than by searching ‘dinosaur family show near me’ and taking them to see Dinosaur World Live? This award-winning show uses spectacular puppetry to introduce little ones to five of prehistory’s most fascinating creatures: Giraffatitan, Microraptor, Segnosaurus, Triceratops and Tyrannosaurus rex. Step back in time with the show’s host, Miranda, and learn amazing facts on this 50-minute journey designed specifically for kids aged three and up. Here’s what to expect.
Lifelike dinosaurs
Each dinosaur has been designed and brought to life with exceptional precision, giving it a lifelike feel. From the texture of their skin (and feathers) to their eye movements, the puppets have been meticulously researched to be as realistic as possible. They’re operated by skilled puppeteers, who have mastered the movements of the creatures so that, despite the human presence on stage, you could believe the dinosaurs are real. The first dinosaurs on stage are the cuter, more friendly ones, which helps kids work up their confidence to face the naughty T. rex towards the end of the show.
Interactive moments
There’s plenty of interaction for children to enjoy. For starters, your little ones will need to keep an eye on the dinosaur egg, because it’s nearly ready to hatch. As soon as it shows signs of moving or cracking, they’ll need to let Miranda know in their biggest voices. When each dinosaur enters the stage, one child will be chosen to go up and groom, pet or feed it. Children are normally chosen from the front few rows, so let your kids know that they may not be picked. Even if they’re not, there’s a 15-minute meet and greet after the performance, so they’ll still have chance to interact with one of the puppets.
The scary bit
Nervous or littler children might find the entrance of the T. rex a little scary. He thunders in with dramatic lighting and loud, booming sounds - but he’s quickly put back in his place by Miranda, and the audience is encouraged to shoo him away by shouting together. Sensitive children will benefit from being reminded that these are puppets, and that real dinosaurs died out a long time ago. Ear defenders may also be useful for kids who struggle with loud or sudden noises.
A focus on fun
There’s no need to worry that your family will face a boring lecture about every dinosaur. The focus of the show is on fun, so there’s plenty of humour and panto-like ‘He’s behind you’ moments, as well as ones that will make you say, “Awww”.
