A parrot-size dinosaur has been discovered with just one enlarged “digging” finger on each hand, it has been unearthed in North-Eastern China, Linhenykus Monodactylus is a member of the Theropod Dinosaurs, the group of two-legged carnivores that includes the Tyrannosaurus Rex and Velociraptor.

Scientists believe Linhenykus Monodactylus, which stood just 2ft tall and weighed about the same as a large parrot, may have used its dino-digits to dig into insect nests. The new Dinosaur is known from a partial skeleton found in the 84- to 75-million-year-old fossil deposits of Inner Mongolia.

They lived about 84 to 75 million years ago – in the late Cretaceous period. This was at the same time as some really big meat eating Dinosaurs such as Tyrannosaurus, Albertosaurus and Spinosaurus.

Linhenychus Monodactylus were carnivores, living alongside club-tailed dinosaurs, horned dinosaurs and small cretaceous animals.
